Marma Abhyanga

 60 minutes

Marma Abhyanga is a wonderful combination of Ayurvedic massage with focus on the Marmas, which are significant Ayurvedic sites on the body that can be stimulated to achieve overall health and balance. Marmas are junctions for several types of tissue elements in the body that include blood and lymph vessels, muscles and bone tissue, and nerves. In this treatment, the therapist draws attention to each of the main Marmas on the body from the feet right up to the base of the head by applying special techniques using rhythm and pressure.

In hindu belief, Mount Meru is thought to be the axis of the earth. The axis, or foundation, of man's body is his spine, thus the merudanda massage is primarily focused on creating body awareness and enhances flexibility in the upper and lower back. In this unique treatment, warm medicated Ayurvedic oil is applied to the back and used to facilitate traditional manipulatory techniques on the cervical and lumbar areas improving circulation, relaxing stiff or sore muscles and soothing pain from the everyday wear and tear of our back.

Literally, "Shiro" means Head and "Dhara" means Flow. Shirodhara is the continuous, gentle flow of warm oil applied on the forehead, with focus on the area between the brows known in Ayurvedic belief as the "Third Eye". With its relation to the constant flow of life, this procedure profoundly coordinates and calms the mind, body, and spirit and enhances blood circulation to the brain, improving memory, nourishing the hair and scalp, and generally aiding in release of stress and tension.
